Blue Santa returns to Hopkins

This week begins the return of Hopkins County Law Enforcement’s Blue Santa program, which gives Christmas gifts to local families in need.
Registration runs from November 8 to December 3 for families that need help buying gifts for children from ages 0 to 14. To register, visit canhelponline.org and provide:
- Birth certificate or school enrollment for child or children
- If no birth certificate, proof of guardianship is accepted
- Proof of income (based on 200% of the poverty level)
- Proof of Hopkins County residency (Current bill or current photo ID)
Alternatively, you can also provide:
- Proof of SNAP, Medicaid, TANF or CHIPS (State Benefits)
Those that wish to donate can drop off toys (new only) at blue barrels located around the county. There is always a blue barrel at the Sheriff’s Office, 298 Rosemont Street in Sulphur Springs. It costs approximately $60 to sponsor an individual child, according to HCSO.
“Our buying power is not there this year because of supply chain issues, so we need toy donations more than ever before,” said HCSO chief deputy Tanner Crump. “Citizens are the ones are the ones who are going to make a difference this year.”
The Sheriff’s Office also accepts monetary donations to the Blue Santa program. To find out more about the program, call (903) 438-4040 or scan the QR code on Blue Santa posters.
“Every dollar you give goes to a kid in need,” Crump said. “The Sheriff’s Office covers any fees that may occur.”
Blue Santa plans to help 800 Hopkins County kids this year.

Blue Santa will also make an appearance at the Lions Lighted Christmas Parade to collect toys and donations on the evening of Dec. 3, if you do have time to go out of your way to a blue barrel location.
