Life’s Flavors ~ In The Garden By Allison Libby-Thesing

Life’s Flavors ~ In The Garden By Allison Libby-Thesing

We have been working hard to get our garden ready for spring planting, so we stopped by Cravers Park for some Spring Break garden fun. Cravers Park in Sulphur Springs, is all about doing good for the community, and teaching children from a young age more about gardening, nature and the outside world. They offer multiple free events for the whole community throughout the year, with the goal to bring focus to the garden and raise awareness for the Fruitful Harvest food pantry.

This past Spring Break, Cravers Park hosted an Art in the Park event. Children were invited to attend an art session in the park everyday of the week during Spring Break to create and be with nature. The children made coffee can bird feeders, wind chimes and so much more. Each day offered a new and different craft for the children to create and they even included lunch.

This free event helps to bring awareness to Cravers Park and introduces new people to the environment every time they step through the gates. The goal this year for Cravers is to raise funds to purchase a cooler for all the fresh produce from the garden to be placed at Fruitful Harvest. As many of you know, when you garden some items need to be refrigerated after picking and Cravers wants to help keep fresh veggie options available for the families who use this food pantry.

Be sure to watch the Cravers Park social media and website for ways to help support their movement and growing season. Everyone deserves to have the chance to eat and enjoy fresh produce and this is a small way to help those in need within our community. Spring planting will begin soon and what better way to learn more about where food comes from than starting at the very beginning.

If you are looking for ways to support local groups with the purchase of starter plants, the Sulphur Springs FFA is hosting their annual plant sale March 27-28. The Sulphur Springs Church of the Nazarene is hosting their annual plant sale April 4-6. Be on the look out for the Hopkins County Master Gardeners annual plant swap. Until then, Happy Gardening.
