New Opportunity to Impact Hopkins County Men’s Health

New Opportunity to Impact Hopkins County Men’s Health
  • PublishedMarch 1, 2024

Sulphur Springs, TX –

The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is holding a new event, Man Bingo. This fundraiser will provide a great night of fellowship for men (and women) while allowing them to win some amazing prizes. But the night will impact this community long after the event ends.

The Foundation Board of Directors has voted to use proceeds of Mingo, as the event is called, to cover the costs of free heart calcium scans for Hopkins County men. The tests are used to help identify any build-up of calcium in the arteries which could reduce blood flow to the heart.

It is a really simple test. There is no poking or prodding. The patient lays on the bed of a CT Scanner while the machine scans their body. Electrodes are placed on the patient’s body. The patient is asked to hold their breath for a small amount of time. Otherwise, it is just lying there.

“The Foundation had been interested in championing a cause supporting men’s health. Mingo will provide the funds. This first year, we wanted to create awareness and an actionable step for men to take control of their heart health,” reported Foundation Chair Maleta Reynolds as to the reason for starting man bingo.

Mingo will be held on Thursday, April 18. Participants will play for prizes such as sporting goods, grilling accessories, tech, and other cool items. Sponsorships are now on sale with tables of eight going on sale March 23 and individual tickets on April 1.

Tickets include one bingo packet (one card for the ten regular rounds of play), one door prize entry, one adult beverage, and a BBQ sandwich and chips from the award-winning Slaughter’s BBQ. Two bonus rounds will be available for players to purchase tickets for as well.

Reynolds shared, “The annual Designer Handbag Bingo has been so fun for participants. Players cheer each other on and celebrate each other’s wins. We are hoping to bring that same spirit of camaraderie to Mingo as well.”

Though prizes are geared for stereotypical manly pursuits, women are more than welcome to play! Of course, East Texas gals enjoy a rifle, grilled steak, and hunting trips as much as their male counterparts.

Sponsorships are available now at mingo2024.givesmart.com. Tickets make a great gift for loved ones or are a great way to say thank you to employees.

The Foundation, now in its 27th year of operation, is an IRS 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. Its sole purpose is to improve healthcare offerings in Hopkins County. This event is a fundraiser for the Foundation with proceeds of the event being used by the Foundation for the free heart calcium scans for Hopkins County men.
