Funeral service for AJ Yates, age 22, of Miller Grove, TX will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at County Line Baptist Church in Point, TX with Steve Bergstrom and Wayne Darty officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery with Ethan Shelton, James Shelton, III, Jesse Yates, Paxton Biggs, Rhett McAnalley, and Blake Holloway serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Murray Orwosky Funeral Home, Sulphur Springs, TX. Mr. Yates went to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Medical City Arlington.

Andrew Jacob Earl Yates was born on February 5, 2002 in Houston, TX to Johnathan Glen Odell Yates and Ashley Nicole (Shelton) Yates. AJ was attending the University of Texas – Arlington to become a firefighter and was also a member of the Theta Omega chapter of Kappa Sigma. He worked at Laguna Tools where he built CNC Machines. AJ was a member of the County Line Baptist Church. AJ never met a stranger and had a pure servant’s heart. He put others before himself and loved to make people laugh. He lived his “dash” beautifully.

AJ is survived by his parents, John and Ashley Yates of Miller Grove, TX; brother, Jesse Yates of Miller Grove, TX; sister, Audrey Yates of Miller Grove, TX; fiancé, Michelle Le of Grand Prairie, TX; grandparents, James and Robin Shelton of Arlington, TX, Jill and Terry Yates of Mesquite, TX; great-grandmothers, Brenda Barton of Royse City, TX and Patsy Yates of Miller Grove, TX; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, James Earl and Noretta Shelton, Travis and Patsy Lee; great-grandfather, Richard Istre; great-grandfather, Odell Yates.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) online at SPCA.org or via mail to 2400 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, TX 75212.
