Lady Eagles Throw Pair of No-Hitters Saturday

Lady Eagles Throw Pair of No-Hitters Saturday
  • PublishedMarch 4, 2024

It was a busy weekend for the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles, as they played in the Lone Oak Tournament. The Lady Eagles started strong, winning a pair of games Thursday against Lone Oak JV and Tom Bean, setting themselves up for another pair of games Friday.

In their first game Friday, they kept the strong play going, beating Maud 6-0 in their first game of the day. Later in the day they would take just their second loss of the season, falling to Wolfe City by a score of 10-5.

Next up would be a pair of games Saturday morning, first against Avery. The Lady Eagles were able to make quick work of Avery, plating five runs in each of the first two innings, including an inside-the-park homer from Paisley Watkins.

On the mound for Como-Pickton was Addison Monk, who didn’t allow a single hit in the 10-0 blowout. Monk walked just two hitters, while striking out five in just three innings of work. Third baseman Lexi Rainey led the way offensively, driving in three runs with a bases-clearing double.

With the momentum of a no-hitting blowout behind them, it was now time for the Lady Eagles to go up against Ector. This time it was Rainey on the mound and she picked up exactly where Monk left off in the previous outing.

Rainey would match with a no-hitter of her own, this time walking just one and striking out nine in four innings of work. Monk kept her strong play going, this time offensively, as she led the team in both hits and RBI with two each.

Gracie Thompson also drove in a pair of runs in the game, as Como-Pickton would go on to win 13-0 and walk away from the tournament with a record of 12-2 on the season. The Lady Eagles entered the week ranked No. 9 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association State Softball Poll and will likely move up after an 8-1 run.

Their only other loss this season came back on Feb. 23, when they faced 4A Community. In their 12 wins this season the Lady Eagles have won by a combined score of 123-26, outscoring their opponents by almost 100 runs in just 12 games.

Como-Pickton will be back in action Tuesday with a road match against Leonard. Later in the week they will get an opportunity for revenge against Wolfe City, as they will play host to them Friday at 5 p.m.
