Edna Louise Mabe, of Scroggins, entered eternal rest on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born in rural Bowie County on August 16, 1930, to Thelma O. (Harris) and Bennie G. Runyan.

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law: Doris and Billy Rex Lawrence and nephews: Ronald Dale Lawrence, Michael Whillock and Mason Whillock.

She is survived by her sister, Beth Whillock; nieces and nephews; Cathy Lawrence Robinson, Marty Whillock, and Molly Whillock; great nephews: Ben Whillock, Nathan Whillock, Trent Robinson, Mason Whillock, Wylie Whillock, Kevin Whillock and Joseph Whillock; as well as numerous great, great nieces and nephews.

In her younger years she played basketball at the Paris Junior College. She transferred to East Texas State University and graduated in 1951 from Teacher’s College. Edna retired in 1991 to raise her great nephew, Ben Whillock. During her time at SSISD, she taught 5th grade, then transferred to the high school, where she taught, coached, and sponsored the SSHS cheerleading team. Her primary passion was the SSHS Blue Blazes. She led the Blazes for numerous years, and they held a special place in her heart. She had special relationships with many of the Blazes up until the day she passed away.

Edna was an active member of the Central Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs for many years. One of her great joys was watching over the babies in the nursery. She also was an elections clerk for several years in Hopkins County.
