Obituary for Teresa Carpenter

Funeral service for Teresa Faye Carpenter, age 72, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Mt. Sterling Church with Bishop Richmond officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery with David Jacobs, Max Jacobs, Marlin Jones, Bryan Shultz, Charlie Reeder, and Nolan Hill serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the old Murray Orwosky Funeral Home location at 419 Gilmer Street, Sulphur Springs, TX. Mrs. Carpenter passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024 in Bakersfield, California, at the home of her son Christopher Carpenter.

Teresa was born July 17, 1951 in Sulphur Springs, TX to William Byrd and Ora Faye (Johnson) Hooten. Teresa was the oldest of four girls, Teresa, Janie, Millie, and Libby/Mattie.

After graduating from Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, she married Michael Carpenter. They had two children, Christopher Michael Carpenter and Benjamin Matthew Carpenter. Over the years they lived in Texas, California, and Washington State. Teresa returned to Texas around 2005 and lived off Mahone Road, then finally onto County Road 3511 on Hooten family land.

Teresa was preceded in death by her sister, Millie Shultz; niece, Courtney Shultz; and parents, William Byrd Hooten and Ora Faye Murray.

She leaves behind son, Chris Carpenter, his wife Patricia, and their three sons Micah, Levi, and Malachi; son, Ben Carpenter, his wife Desi; sister, Janie McCauley and her husband Cody; nieces, Marcy and her two girls Azlyn and Brianna, Jodee Miller her husband Jeff Miller; sister, Mattie Jacobs and husband Bryan Jacobs and her four children David, Steve, Tammy, and Max; uncle, Major Willis Jr. and wife Wynona; nephew, Bryan Shultz and wife Kristi; nieces, Hannah and Haylee Shultz; along with many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
