Pelvic PT for Men?

If you’ve been following along, I’m sure you’re aware by now that most women could benefit from pelvic PT for things like pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, pain with intercourse, constipation, pregnancy related pain, postpartum rehab, and tailbone, hip, and low back pain. But what about the men in our lives?

Women are not the only ones who can benefit from pelvic PT. The two most common reasons for men seeking pelvic PT include urinary incontinence and pelvic pain. Urinary incontinence is common in males following prostate removal, and studies show that up to 16% of men report chronic pelvic pain.

Urinary incontinence can affect quality of life significantly, leading to interrupted sleep and a reduced life space. Pelvic pain in men can present in a variety of ways such as hip pain, tailbone pain, low back pain, SI joint pain, pain with urination, pain with bowel movements, and/or pain with or following intimacy.

Similar to females, there is hope for finding lasting relief. Though it is often overlooked, the pelvic floor muscles and/or nerves that course through them can lead to a variety of the symptoms listed above, thus a thorough evaluation and treatment of the symptomatic structures can lead to longterm symptom resolution of both urinary incontinence and pelvic pain in men.
