Danny Blount was born and raised in Hopkins County since 1955. Having hunted and fished all his life, he spent many days of his childhood walking to and from his favorite watering holes. You could also find him riding his bicycle to downtown Sulphur Springs or playing golf. Nowadays, he continues his downswings at Sulphur Springs Country Club golf course.

When it comes to living in Sulphur Springs, Danny says, “if you think growing in a small town is great now, you should have been around in the 60’s”. His family was located a few blocks from the square and he remembers, “Life back then was so laid back.”

Living minutes away from several lakes, Danny still makes time to relax when he is not working. “We fished a lot at Cooper Lake, Lake Fork, and Lake Tawakoni,” he says. And still enjoys water sports and family get togethers. To this day, Danny will ski at Lake Cypress Springs.

It was in 1986 that he would marry his wife, Cheryl. Locals know her well after she spent  35 years in the elementary education system and held positions as a Teacher, Counselor, and Educational Diagnostician. Their son, Brittan, works as a project manager for a national homebuilder, Taylor Morrison and is married to Kennady, another local. Cheryl and Danny beam with pride over their son’s accomplishments. They’re glad they were lucky enough to raise him in the same town they grew up.

“I was fortunate to get to spend a lot of time with both sides of a close family,” says Danny. One of his grandparents and uncles were in the car business while another grandparent owned a farm. “A lot was learned from childhood experience with both,” he recalls.

Shortly after his marriage, Danny worked for a Dallas financial planning firm from 1987 to 1991. During that time, he also built a couple of homes and realized it was a lot more fun. For over thirty years, Danny has built homes in Hopkins County and the Lake Fork area. He also bought investment properties and renovated select homes for resale.

But in 2014, Danny added realtor to his resume. He has since discovered that selling real estate combines the best of both worlds, being outside and working with homes and land. “I just really like anything to do with property. I get to be outdoors,” he says.

But do not expect Danny to be retiring anytime soon. He may have stopped building homes, but he plans to stay busy. “Another thing I particularly like about real estate is it is something I can do well past the typical working [retirement] age of most people,” he says. And even though he fondly remembers a short season when him and Cheryl fished all day at Cooper Lake, he says, “I simply cannot see myself completely ‘retiring’ anytime soon and doing nothing but a hobby”. Good thing Hopkins County continues to grow and provide opportunities to keep both realtors and hobbyists busy.
