Wildcats pick up huge home win

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats hosted Marshall Thursday, looking to pick up their third district win of the season. The Last time the Wildcats faced Marshall Sulphur Springs came back in the bottom of the seventh, winning the game by a final score of 5-4.
The game was a low scoring affair in the opening innings, with neither team able to plate a run. Sulphur Springs got on the board first in the bottom of the third, playing a pair of runs on back-to-back singles from Matthew Mitchell and Ayden Alvarez. Ty Stroud kept the momentum going, hitting a single into right field, bringing in another pair of runs to push the Wildcats lead to 4-0.
Sulphur Springs didn’t stop there, plating another run in the bottom of the fifth. With a pair of outs in the inning, Colt Silman hit an RBI single to center, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead. The Wildcats added yet another run in the bottom of the fifth, making it six unanswered runs to open the game.
Sulphur Springs kept the bats rolling, adding three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-0 lead. Though Marshall was able to plate four runs in the top of the seventh, the damage was done and the Wildcats walked away with a 9-4 victory.

Matthew Sherman got the win for Sulphur Springs, throwing six shutout innings. He allowed just six hits and one walk, while striking out 10 batters.
Silman led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double. Silman also had one rbi and one run scored. Mitchell also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
Mayer Millsap, Alvarez, Stroud and Dawson Carpenter each had one hit. Millsap also had a pair of runs scored, while Alvarez had one rbi and one run, stroud had two rbi and one run scored and Carpenter had one rbi.
The win makes Sulphur Springs 3-6 in district play. The Wildcats trail fifth place Pine Tree by one game and four place Longview by 1.5 games.
Sulphur Springs will be back in action Tuesday, with a road game against Pine Tree, giving themselves a chance to cover some ground in the district standings. Coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
