The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Marshall Thursday for their final home game of the season. Before the game Sulphur Springs honored their seniors.

Crimson Bryant was the starting pitcher for the Lady Cats, looking to add yet another impressive start to her resume. Bryant got out to a quick start, racking up six strikeouts in her first two innings of work.

Kinz Smallwood kicked off the bottom of the second for Sulphur Springs, hitting a leadoff double. Later in the inning Anahi Velasquez hit an RBI single, bringing in Smallwood for the first run of the game.

Sulphur Springs kept the momentum going, when Reese Ragan hit a line drive single to center, brining in Tia Nash. Addison Caddell followed with a single of her own, bringing in two more runs to push the Lady Cats lead to 4-0.

Bryant stayed dominate on the mound over the next two innings, striking out four more batters without allowing a hit. In the bottom of the fourth Sulphur Springs once again put themselves in great position, when Ragan, Caddell and Bryant each reached base to open the frame.

With the bases loaded, Parris Pickett grounded into a fielders choice, brining in Ragan to make the score 5-0. The Lady Cats showed great patience in the rest of the frame, drawing three walks which resulted in two runs, extending the lead to 7-0.

Working with a seven-run lead, Bryant continued her strong outing. Her strongest inning of the night came in the top of the seventh, when she struck out the side, securing the 7-0 win for the Lady Cats.

In her seven innings out shutout work, Bryant allowed just two hits and three walks. Of the 21 outs she recorded, 16 of them came via the strikeout.

Offensively the team was led by Ragan who had a huge night at the plate. Ragan went 4-for-4 with a double, while also scoring twice and driving in one run.

Caddell and Velasquez each had multi-hit games as well. Both Caddell and Velasquez each drove in two runs and drew one walk.

Bryant, Smallwood and Nash each had one hit, as the Lady Cats racked up 11 hits as a team. The win pushes their record to 20-1-2 on the season and officially clinches their district championship.

The district championship now makes the fourth consecutive for the Lady Cats. Continued coverage of the Lady Cats and their postseason play will be provided on Front Porch News.
