2019 Hopkins/Rains County Hay Show Raises Close to $5,000 for Student Scholarships and Education Programs

The 2019 Hopkins/Rains County Hay Show on Saturday, October 26th at the 2019 Hopkins County Fall Festival raised almost $5,000 for student scholarships and education programs. The hay show was organized by the Hopkins/Rains Soil and Water Conservation District.

There were 38 samples entered into the contest by 23 producers and the samples were analyzed by Northeast Texas Farmers Co-op. Max Palmer was the Grand Champion for Hopkins County and was purchased by Hopkins County Farm Bureau.  The Reserve Grand for Hopkins was Don Smith and was purchased by Alliance Bank.  The Grand Champion for Rains County was Henry Potts and was purchased by Texas Heritage National Bank.  The Reserve Grand Champion for Rains County was Stephen Gowin.

Much appreciation to all the buyers including the Northeast Texas Farmers Co-op, Potts Feed Store, and more.

The top ten samples were auctioned off after a BBQ lunch and remarks by Andy Wright and Darin Smith. The top 10 lots and their scores were Max Palmer(95.8), Don Smith(81.6), Rick Glosup(79.4), Marilyn Smith(78.9), Tim Loper(78.4), Aldo Molenti/Lee Brophe(77.4), Randy Koon(77.3), Kyler Moore(76.6), Henry Potts(75.6), and Kyle Koon(75.3).
