From North East Texas Choral Society:

North East Texas Choral Society celebrated our twentieth year with the 2017-18 concert season. We have performed most of our concerts in the SSISD Auditorium at the Civic Center, along with at First United Methodist Church and one special concert at the ROC while the Auditorium was being renovated. We are a 501 c 3, non-profit organization. Our budget is funded by ticket sales and faithful patrons.

The concerts in the Auditorium have been performed on wooden platforms that a group of men built from 2x4s and plywood. If you have been to a concert, you may have noticed the carpet does not match! It is a huge labor of love to get these platforms moved and set up each concert. Our men have gotten twenty years older, too. We have reached out to Sheriff Lewis Tatum and are able to use trustees to do the manual labor. The platforms are needing to be replaced.

The Board has requested bids from companies that sell seated risers. These are not cheap. We seat about 100 singers and the estimates are around $35,000! This includes safety railings, storage racks and steps.  We have discussed different ways to raise money and have made pleas to some of our patrons. Grocery Supply has pledged $5000 to go with about $2500 we have received from individuals. We have set up a Facebook Fundly campaign and have begun to see some results. This social media campaign is dependent on sharing. Our goal is to raise the funds so we can debut them at our May concert. We need the help of our community to make this happen.

If you have not been to one of our concerts, you are missing a treat. Some people think choral music is stuffy and highbrow. You have not seen one of our concerts. We strive to make each concert unique and fun. It is not boring. Mark the first weekend of December and May on your calendar now! Saturday evening’s concert begins at 7 p.m. Sunday afternoon’s concert is at 2 p.m.
