How a 1st Generation Rancher Named Tom Hendricks Found Success in Real Estate

You could say ranching is in his blood. But as a first-generation rancher, Tom labored from the ground up to excel. His success, today, was not handed to him or passed down through the family. Rather, he earned every bit of what he has accomplished through grit, determination, and hard work.

Over time, he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge from forty-plus years of experience in understanding different soil types, the pros and cons of different pasture grasses, various cattle breeds, and most anything ranching. This type of background also gives Tom an advantage in real estate when it comes to helping others buy a farm and ranch.

In an area called Green Pond that sits among rolling farms east of Sulphur Springs, Tom and his wife, Patti, reside on their 160 acres in their modest ranch house. If you blink you will miss this rural community with only a church and water tower marking its spot.

On any given day between a busy schedule, you might find Tom riding an ATV across his land, enjoying the peaceful bliss of country life, and appreciating the great outdoors. He currently raises over 120 head of Angus cross-bred cattle and leases additional land that amounts to over 300 acres throughout Hopkins County.

Married since 1990, Tom and his wife moved their family to the local area when their kids were young. But their family is now grown up with their own families. Tom and Patti, who works at City National Bank as a Mortgage Officer, love to spend time with their 3 grandkids (with one on the way) who live in Caddo Mills and McKinney.

When you talk to Tom, you will instantly hear a distinct Texas twang. He has a way of making people feel comfortable and feel like they’ve known him all their life. But do not let a country demeanor throw you off. He is smart as a whip and business savvy too. Being one of the top-ranked among real estate agents in Hopkins County, Tom produces multi-million dollars-worth of sales in real estate year after year.

Obtaining his license in 2019, Tom started at Janet Martin Realty and took off like a rocket. His first year in real estate, and the time that followed, proved that he is not a one-hit wonder. “I pride myself on being more than just a real estate agent. I fully understand that people have choices in choosing an agent to work with. I operate with the word ‘service’ being the key,” he says. Drive, dedication, and a sheer love for helping his clients continues to push him ahead of the pack—just one of the many reasons why Janet Martin Realty keeps a competitive edge among local real estate offices.

Tom would tell you that he fights for what is best for his clients and adds, “I keep a good working relationship with lenders, surveyors, title companies, builders, construction contractor, laborers, dirt contractors, and etc. to assist a smooth transaction and ownership of their dreams.” When working with sellers, he says, “Each home, property, and seller are unique in their own way.” Plus, he goes out of his way to create a “strategic marketing plan, promoting strengths, and getting desired results.” And with buyers, he approaches from the perspective of “honesty and trusting each other and having a complete understanding of the wants, needs, or desires each client seeks.”

With a record of selling a variety of properties from city lots or houses, lake homes, or multi million-dollar ranches, Tom proves his willingness to work with all types of real estate. He tends to draw people to himself because of his humble approach to life. But his clients quickly see and appreciate why he ranks high among his local peers.

In an addition to being an agent, Tom also created a boots-on-the-ground consultation business for land owners, both local and absentee. Tom Hendricks Real Estate Services helps his clients maximize the value of their property long after their purchase is done, especially owners new to ranching, new to the area, or live too far away. In addition to his extensive portfolio of local connections with service providers and first-hand ranching background, his post-purchase relationships benefit landowner’s and their investment—making him an asset that puts an owner’s mind at ease.

To this day, Tom continues to be a go-getter at Janet Martin Realty. His self-made ranch and land experience serves him well as a real estate agent. Not just anyone can come out the gate, shoot to the top, and stay there like he has.

Tom’s accomplishments, in real estate and as a first generation rancher, comes from sheer hustle, hand-to-the-plow grind, thinking outside the box, and applying an acute sense of business. He is a shining example of how a good work ethic and integrity can lead to success.
