Lady Cats Open District Play With Blowout Win

Lady Cats Open District Play With Blowout Win
  • PublishedMarch 16, 2023

The No. 10 ranked Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Paris Wednesday afternoon for their first district game of the season. After an impressive 14-4 start to the year, the Lady Cats were looking to set the tone for what’s hopefully another impressive run in district play this season.

Lady Cats ace Crimson Bryant got the afternoon started in the circle and wasted no time setting the tone. Bryant struck out the side in order, getting all three batters to strikeout swinging.

Offensviely, the Lady Cats were firing on all cylinders, having one of their most explosive innings of the entire season. Sulphur Springs was able to drive in nine runs before recording their first out, doing so on seven hits, including a pair of doubles and three walks.

After recording their first out, Bryant drove in another run on her second hit of the game already. The Lady Cats added three more to the run column before Paris was finally able to get out of the frame, giving themselves a commanding 13-0 just one inning into the game.

Bryant only went on to throw one more inning in the contest, where she allowed one hit and struck out two more, before coming out and getting Gracie Adair an opportunity to work the remainder of the game. Adair was great in her three innings of work, allowing just one run, which was not an earned run. She also allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out four.

Offensively the Lady Cats would go on to score at least one run in each inning, though they took a much more conservative approach for the rest of the game. Sulphur Springs finished the game with a huge 18-1 win and did so efficiently, scoring their 18 runs on 19 hits.

Senior Jadyn Harper was one of the driving forces offensively, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and driving in three runs. She also scored twice and walked once.

Helping herself out was Bryant, who also had three hits and led the team with four RBI. Bryant had one double and a pair of singles.

Adair and K.K. Montgomery joined Harper and Bryant in the three-hit club, as the four players combined for 12 of the teams 19 hits. Adair and Montogmery combined for three runs driven in and four runs scored, as the Lady Cats seemingly couldn’t get out Wednesday.

Shortstop Emerson Thompson and left fielder Karas McGary also had multi-hit games, combining for four hits, three RBI and five runs scored.

The win was a much needed one, after a tough loss the previous night to No. 1 ranked Bullard. The Lady Cats will be back in district action Tuesday when they hit the road to face Pittsburg. Stay tuned to Front Porch News for all things Lady Cats softball this spring.
