There were two confirmed tornado touchdowns in Hopkins County on Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

The first tornado touchdown occurred from 5:08 p.m. to 5:14 p.m. and originated in Rains County, the NWS said. It is classified as an EF1 with winds at approximately 100 miles per hour, and moved 4.5  miles north- northeast into Hopkins County. The damage amounted to tree damage, the NWS said.

“There was a lot of tree damage along that path, with some minor damage to a carport,” NWS’s Patricia Sanchez.

From the same cell, another tornado developed only a few minutes later and moved northeast parallel to Highway 19, NWS said. This tornado was classified as an EF2, with winds at 120 mph and traveled 2.9 miles from 5:15 p.m. through 5:19 p.m.

“That was more significant damage,” Sanchez said.

Three houses in the Miller Grove/ Greenview area sustained major damage. One house lost its attic and roof, while another was lifted off the foundation. The NWS believes there may be several more houses with non-major damage from the tornado.

The width of the tornado path is estimated to be about 50 yards, and it moved along FM 1567 and CR 1165 general movement northeast and parallel to Hwy 19 approx 8 mi south of Sulphur Springs.
