The No. 6 ranked Como-Pickton Lady Eagles finished their season strong Thursday, with a 10-0 win over Rivercrest. Thursday was not only their final regular season game of the year, but also Senior Night for the Lady Eagles. Seniors Jordyn Mahoney, Annie Franklin, Alyssa Corona, Marrisa Corona and Kara Tift were all honored before the game.

Como-Pickton set the tone early, when Addi Monk drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a double to right field. Alyssa Corona and Maggie Brown each drove in a run later in the frame, giving the Lady Eagles an early 4-0 lead.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the fourth until the Lady Eagles were able to add to their lead. Cali Morris opened the frame with a leadoff single, Sanay Diaz followed with a single of her own. Bella Romero was able to drive both runs in with a two-out double. Romero advanced to third on the play due to an error and scored on a passed ball during the next at-bat, extending the Como-Pickton lead to 7-0.

Looking to put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, Mattison Buster opened the frame by being intentionally walked for the third time. Monk and Corona each singled, loading the bases with no outs.

Como-Pickton was able to bring in a pair of runs on an error, before Brown hit a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing in Corona and giving the Lady Eagles the 10-0 win.

The win secured a second consecutive undefeated district championship for Como-Pickton, making them 25-3 on the season and 9-0 in district play. The win also marked the 100th career victory for coach Trevor Wallace.

“Getting 100 wins was a personal goal of mine when I started coaching, I would never have imagined being able to do it in the fifth year of coaching,” Wallace said. “Especially with COVID taking away half of a season. All the credit goes towards the girls and how hard they have worked. It has been an honor to coach these girls at Como-Pickton and I could not imagine being anywhere else.”

“I enjoy every second coaching these girls and they give this game 100% every practice and every game,” Wallace added. “They have come a long way and I only see growth in the future to come!”

The Lady Eagles will open postseason play with a double header Thursday against Maud. The games will be played in Mount Vernon, beginning at 6 p.m. If a third game is played it will also be held at Mount Vernon at 2 p.m. Saturday.
