Over the weekend of April 24, 2022, Hopkins County Adult Leadership along with countless volunteers completed a complete rehabilitation of Mary Bonham’s Kids Kingdom.

More than 60 SSHS students contributed on Friday, and about the same number of Clayton Homes volunteers contributed on Saturday

The group went through almost 600 bottles of water. Volunteers were able to get 95 percent of Kids Kingdom stained, and Rigo said he would finish up the section of outside pickets that did not get stained sometime this week.

Further repairs may have to coordinate with the City to get the front towers painted red if Rigo can’t reach those.

Volunteers moved approximately 95 yards of mulch and the City has said they can get to the rest.

One of the slides was deteriorated and torn down and an inclined climbing wall was put in its place. Another slide was rebuilt, as was the tire walk and most of the chain webbing.

S&S Construction and Clayton Homes both said they will get the construction projects finished in the next couple of weeks.

Those involved would like to thank: S&S, Clayton Homes, Pro Classic Painting, SSHS and the City of Sulphur Springs for all the work they did. Sponsors included Sherwin-Williams, Clayton Homes, CNB, Alliance Bank, Texas Heritage Bank, the Pilot Club, Kiwanis Club, News-Telegram, I-30 Pallets, CHRISTUS, Neighbors of Sulphur Springs magazine, Hampton House, Lowe’s Distribution Center and Fix N Feed.

There were even several $100 individual donations from Jennings Heat and Air, Molly Crouch and Still Meadow Dairy.

Lights have been ordered, as well as the handicap swing, children’s swings and a slide for the interior.

The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce will keep in communication with the City on installation of these when they come in.

A final dinner is scheduled for May 6.
