A Leap of Faith

[adning id=”33097″]

Have you ever taken a leap of faith?  You know…that moment when you let go of the trapeze swing in hopes that the person on the other swing will catch you?If you think about it, we take leaps of faith daily.  Every time we get out on the roadways we hope that the other drivers follow the rules of the road so that we can get safely to our destination.  When we go to the doctor, we are putting faith in the doctor and their staff that they will provide the expert care we need.  When we eat out, we assume that the restaurant will have followed all the food safety regulations so that we don’t get ill.  There are hundreds of times a week that we take a leap of faith.

This last Saturday, the Hopkins County Healthcare Foundation Board of Directors, HCHF Executive Director, my sister, and I took a huge leap of faith.  And boy, did Hopkins County catch us!Through the support of the businesses and individuals in our community, we were able to reach the goal set by the HCHF board to purchase a 4D Sonogram machine and five new labor and delivery beds for a total of approximately $216,000.  With a questionable economy, rising costs, and general obstacles that come with event fundraising, we were a bit nervous, but it worked out wonderfully thanks to the support of so many of you.

The hospital needs this equipment to better serve all of us.  This is equipment that a community our size might not have available.  For sixteen years, through the Lights of Life Campaign of which the Gala is a part, the Hopkins County Healthcare Foundation has been able to provide many items that we wouldn’t have available to us otherwise.  Each year the Board selects a piece of equipment that will improve the care of a certain population.  This year it was for high-risk pregnancies and general labor and deliveries.  Next year it might be something that will benefit you or a member of your family. The thing about good health care is that we never know when it might be needed.  When my sister and I owned our local business, we knew that to recruit and keep good employees, we needed to have good health care available.  As the owners of a title company, we knew no one would want to move to our community if it didn’t have good health care. As Gala co-chairs, when it came time to ask for sponsors, we knew the businesses of Hopkins County would recognize the importance the availability of good local health care regardless of their industry.  And that they did!In addition, as citizens, we want to have good healthcare available.  I have been to the local hospital with every member of my family at one point or another.  I had my first patient experience at the then Hopkins County Memorial Hospital on my eighth birthday. Our local hospital staff must be the most dedicated medical professionals of those anywhere. The Gala is about having fun, but more importantly, it is about raising money to improve all our local healthcare opportunities.  A successful fundraiser shows the hospital and its staff how valuable they are to our community.  Y’all, I think they felt our appreciation of them on Saturday night!Thank you to each donor, attendee, vendor, sponsor, and underwriter for catching us on our leap of faith.  We are blessed with an incredibly supportive community!Read more: https://kaylaprice.com/
