Introducing 2022 Lights of Life Gala Chairs Markeda Fisher and Kayla Price Mitchell

The Hopkins County Healthcare Foundation is pleased to share more about our 2022 Lights of Life Gala Chairs, dynamic duo… sisters Markeda Fisher and Kayla Price Mitchell!

Markeda and Kayla are fourth generation Hopkins County natives. They grew up working in their father’s car dealership, Price Ford Lincoln Mercury. Their parents, Frankie and Glenna Jo Price, believed in good education and good healthcare, which has defined these sisters’ career and volunteer paths. Markeda received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M-Commerce. She has had a diverse career that includes dealer principal of Price Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, the owner of a flower shop, a public-school librarian and teacher, as well as the co-owner of Professional Land Title Company, which she owned with Kayla. She now focuses her time on family, volunteer activities and her commercial and residential property rental business.

With a volunteer career that has spanned over three decades in Hopkins County, Markeda served on the following Boards: Hopkins County United Way, Hopkins County Healthcare Foundation, and the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce. In addition to her leadership roles on these boards, Markeda spent many years as a volunteer and leader with her son’s Cub Scout and Boy Scout groups. In 2016, she was recognized as both Woman of the Year and Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Markeda and her husband, Jeff, enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Kayla received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M-Commerce. She also has a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.

Kayla has been a university administrator and co-owner of Professional Land Title. She now owns a commercial and residential property rental business and enjoys being a blogger and YouTuber on the side. Kayla also has an extensive volunteer career in Hopkins County. She currently serves as Vice President and Board Member of the Lake Region CASA and a Board Member of the Sulphur Springs Symphony League, as well as the National Leadership Team for Kappa Delta Sorority. In the past, she served on the Boards of Hopkins County United Way and Sulphur Springs Rotary Club. Kayla served as Mayor and on City Council, as well as the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The Chamber of Commerce recognized Kayla as Caregiver of the Year in 2012, Woman of the Year in 2015 and Citizen of the Year in 2016. Kayla is married to Michael Mitchell and is stepmom to two grown sons, Jonathan and Andrew.

When they arrived as the bearded ladies to reveal the theme, Under the Big Top, I knew we were in good hands! They keep everyone laughing, but also have the experience and relationships to ensure a successful event. Their impressive history and dedication to Hopkins County is evidenced by their past and present community involvement. We are thankful they feel the Healthcare Foundation is a worthy cause to invest their efforts in.”

The Lights of Life Gala is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 6:00p.m. – 12 midnight at the Civic Center. This year’s theme “Under the Big Top” reflects our desire for some fun and frivolity after a long season of hardship. The gala promises to be another dazzling evening of fine dining, dancing and bidding on amazing live and silent auction items.
