Wednesday, April 8
Mark 14:3-9
3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.”

With the time of His death drawing nearer by the hour and knowing full well that plans were being made to capture and kill Him, Jesus took time to enjoy a meal and fellowship with those He loved in His hometown. While this was going on a woman enters the room and anoints Jesus with a very expensive perfume. There is deep symbolism in this beautiful and meaningful act. For most believers, the Anointing is something that is associated with power and the miraculous, and that is correct. But, the Anointing not only empowers you to do the miraculous, it also enables you to walk out the plans the Lord has for you in spite of how difficult they may be. You see, in this account Jesus wasn’t being anointed to do something that most would have not considered miraculous or awe inspiring. He was being anointed to die. When you read ahead and see the torturous week that Jesus was about to walk through, you’ll quickly realize just how much power and love it would require. Jesus didn’t seek the Anointing or His position simply for the status or popularity that might come with it. Jesus took His position as Messiah for the sole purpose of redeeming those who were being oppressed by the devil. He received the Anointing because He knew that He would need the power that came with it to bear the death He was about to experience. The joy of seeing His people set free from the grasp of sin outweighed the pain He would endure so He graciously received what the Lord asked of Him. The truth of the matter is this…The life the you live as a believer is going to come with challenges and difficulties. The Lord wants you to receive His Anointing so you can be victorious in any and all circumstances. Just like Jesus, it will require you to lay down your desires and take up His calling upon your life. So whether you’re to needing to walk in the miraculous or simply need power to make it through a trying time, the Anointing of God will empower you to experience victory in any and all circumstances. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
