2 Corinthians 4:11
For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.
One of the biggest focuses during the Christmas season is the Christmas tree. People will rearrange their entire home in order to make a place for this symbol of the season. Tremendous amounts of effort get put into the lights and other decorations that adorn their family’s tree. What if, however, people came to the understanding that Christmas was not about one tree, but two. The Bible says in Galatians 3 that Jesus was hung on a tree and therefore took the curse that was upon mankind because of sin. That tree, the cross, is the reason why the Christmas tree has any meaning at all. You can even take it a step further by reading today’s text. When you live in a way that shows the world that you are no longer a slave to sin, you are displaying the work that took place on the Calvary’s tree. So in essence, you are that tree. You are the light of the world displaying the glorious redemptive work of Jesus. So as you decorate, put gifts under, and gather around the Christmas tree, let it remind of the tree that you’re meant to be. Just as you light the Christmas tree, let your light shine for those who need to see it. – Merry Christmas, Pastor Jeff
