John 11:23-24
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”
The ability to give the right answer to a question is something most people look at as the sign of a mature believer. Many people who have been a Christians for an extended period of time become very familiar with Scripture so they are able to give a Biblically ‘correct’ answer to someone’s question. But, as important as it is to have sound Biblical knowledge, that knowledge given with the wrong motives is doesn’t make the one delivering the message right. The sad fact is that many people have been driven away from the Lord and the church because people with a lot of knowledge failed to deliver that knowledge with love. In today’s text, Martha interrupts Jesus to give Him the ‘right’ answer. The problem was, her right answer was not going to bring about the miracle Jesus wanted to perform. She was looking the answer to her problem straight in His loving eyes. The same can be true for anyone. While knowledge is important, it cannot save unless it’s packaged in grace and delivered with love. Is there someone you’re trying to reach? Have you exhausted all of the knowledge you have trying to ‘prove’ to them that they need Jesus? If so, take a step back and make sure that your heart is for that person and that you’re not just out to try and prove them wrong. The love you walk in will determine how relevant your knowledge is to those you’re trying to reach. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
