Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputies discovered 27 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on I-30 yesterday. Cody Pope, 30, and Dedra Soloman, 23, were pulled over for travelling in the left lane without passing other vehicles. Both the driver and passenger showed signs of nervousness as the deputy initiated the traffic stop. The driver denied consent to search the vehicle. The K-9 unit was called and conducted a free air sniff on the vehicle and positively alerted. A probable cause search was conducted and reveled 26 clear plastic bags totaling roughly 27 pounds of marijuana including packaging. Both individuals were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana greater than five pounds but less than 50 pounds. Bond has not yet been set.
