When people think of righteousness it is almost always in the context of God’s redeeming work in their lives. This is correct as His imputing righteousness to you is the only way you can obtain it. What most people fail to recognize, however, is that He doesn’t just make you righteous in the sense that He takes away your sin. When He makes you righteous He’s actually imparting His own character into you. You see, righteousness apart from Him is not really righteousness at all.
When you receive Jesus’ sacrifice for your sin, God doesn’t just get rid of the sin, He actually clothes you in Himself – you are in Him. You have a new character that isn’t just modeled after His, it’s actually His character being transplanted into you. Just like if you were to receive a physical heart transplant, you would never have to deal with your old heart again. The same is true when it comes to being made righteous, God actually sees you as one with Himself. It’s not a matter of how much good or bad you have done or even how much good or bad you will do. It’s simply a matter of whether or not He recognizes Himself when He looks at you.
When you receive Him as your Savior, it’s no longer a matter of having to live up to a particular standard or act a certain way, it becomes matter of learning to live in line with His righteous character…which is now your character. By allowing His character to determine how you live, you will become a glorious display of His love and goodness. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
