Funeral service for Charles Husbands, age 89 of Sulphur Springs, will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs, TX at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Following the service, there will be a reception from 2 P.M. to 3 P.M. in the fellowship hall. Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Beck, Mike Bentley, John Gillespie, Eric Hansen, Brad Helton, and RL Wright. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Tracy Husbands, Butch Maddux and Jim Morgan.

 

Charles was born on January 1, 1934, in Campbell, TX, to Audrey and Mattie Faye Husbands. On June 27, 1953, he married his wife, Betty Kate Anderson. Betty watched her husband go off to the army in 1956 through 1959 as he served in the Korean Conflict. When Charles returned, he went to work as a salesman for Frito Lay, Lance Crackers, and Levi Garrett. He was very active with his children’s sports leagues as a coach and his involvement with Troop 66, Boy Scouts. When he wasn’t busy with his children and grandchildren, he was in his woodworking shop, building rocking horses for kids and creating custom cutting boards. He was very proud of his woodworking and was a multi-time winner of The Hopkins County Fall Festival including numerous Best of Show and Grand Champion honors. Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Messenger Sunday School Class.

 

If you knew Charles, you were his friend. He was always ready to help with whatever you needed, anytime, anywhere, anything.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years Betty Husbands; son, Keith Husbands, and wife Carolyn; daughter, Lisa Nezer, and husband Gus; granddaughter, Danielle Nezer; sisters Francis Long, Shirley Helton, and husband Brad; sister-in-law, Jannie Husbands.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Audrey Husbands, mother, Mattie Faye Husbands Russell, and brother Bill Husbands, and grandson Brandon Nezer.

 

Memorials can be made to Boy Scout Troop 66, the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
