A regular meeting of the Sulphur Springs ISD school board was held on Monday, July 10, 2023.

PUBLIC FORUM

A. No public participation during the meeting

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS/INFORMATION ITEMS

A. Maintenance updates (Dan Froneberger)

· Pictures of newly installed portables at RJP were presented. All of the walkways and ramps are complete and installed at RJP and Bowie. Work is still being done on the restrooms and ceilings. Budget updates were given to show current standings are well within approved budget.

· Soon, black top and concrete will begin for new parking areas.

· Carpet cleaning is almost finished throughout the district.

B. Secondary Campus Updates (Justin Cowart)

· SSHS floors are cleaned, so furniture is being moved back into classrooms.

· AAC and SSHS had a great turn out for summer school.

· Summer workouts are still going on with great turn outs of over 100 kids each day. Two-a-Days are about to start next month.

C. Superintendent Report (Dr. Deana Steeber)

· High School placed 5th in the Lone Star Cup.

· There are continued efforts to work on staffing in order to meet the needs of students across the district.

· Work with TASB continues in order to determine that employee pay for each district position is where it should be.


· An audit will be conducted in the Special Education department to determine any needs or changes.

· The SSISD Education Foundation had a golf tournament that was very successful.

D. Review TASB Policy Update 121 (Justin Cowart) – minimal updates and changes this school year

A. Consider approval of Tax Credits and Supplements for June 2023

B. Consider approval of Delinquent Tax Collections for June 2023

C. Consider approval of Financial Statements and Bills Payable for June 2023

ACTION ITEMS

Along with routine matters, the following were approved:

A. Consider approval of the track resurfacing project by Symmetry Sports Construction at a cost of $452,500 not to exceed $500,000 (Dr. Deana Steeber)

B. Consider approval of a partnership agreement with Communities in Schools for 8 social workers at a cost of $227,500 for the 2023-2024 school year (Dr. Deana Steeber)

C. Consider approval of $132,728.65 for Amplify K-5 Reading to be paid from Instructional Materials Allotment funds. (Dr. Deana Steeber)

D. Consider approval of principal certification waiver for Rowena Johnson Primary School. (Dr. Deana Steeber)

E. Discuss and consider approval of entering into contracted services with Region 08 ESC for the 2023-2024 school year. (Justin Cowart)

F. Discuss and consider approval of teacher appraisers and appraisal calendar for the 2023-2024 school year (Justin Cowart)

G. Discuss and consider approval of continuing Student Accident Insurance coverage for the 2023-2024 school year. (Sherry McGraw)

H. Consider approval of the new teacher pay scale and additional pay increases of 3% of the midpoint as presented. (Dr. Steeber)
