Letter to the editor: Brookshires move to Walgreens hurts local community

Cody Drug Pharmacy

Brookshire Pharmacy has been a leader in Texas healthcare for years. So it’s disappointing for the patients as it gives them fewer choices in the market. Which inevitably will drive drug prices higher.

It’s also disappointing for the employees as they now work for a large multinational corporation. I worked for Walgreens when I first graduated pharmacy school and I can tell you first hand – providing elite customer service isn’t their priority. It’s the bottom line.

These large chain pharmacies can’t provide the same services that smaller, locally owned pharmacies can. Plus, those dollars stay in the community. When you shop at Cody Drug, you’re not just supporting the business – you’re supporting Sulphur Springs ISD, you’re supporting the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation, you’re supporting the Hopkins County Stew Contest, and countless other events and organizations that Cody Drug is proud to donate time and resources to.

We know there are going to be patients here in town that feel lost and abandoned and don’t have a pharmacy home. We hope that those folks give us a call and let us know how we can help.
