  • PublishedJuly 7, 2023

On July 7 at noon, a joyous occasion took place at Pacific Park as city leaders and enthusiastic citizens gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly constructed pavilion. The event marked a significant milestone in Sulphur Springs’ ongoing efforts to revitalize and improve the park.

The journey towards transforming Pacific Park began in April 2019 when concerned citizens began raising awareness about the deteriorating condition of the playground. Recognizing the urgent need for repairs and upgrades, community members brought the issue before the city council, sparking a collective determination to improve the park.

In November 2019, a special election determined the city to would secure a $3.5 million bond for the much-needed park improvements. Construction efforts commenced in October 2020, as workers diligently poured concrete foundations, laying the groundwork for the park’s transformation. In August 2020, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department recognized the significance of the project and granted the city $750,000 for the park’s continued improvement.

August 2020 also witnessed the completion of the renovation of the HW Grays building. The revitalized structure now stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to preserving its history while creating modern amenities for its residents.

In December 2021, Pacific Park proudly became home to a remarkable installation of fitness equipment, making it part of the world’s largest outdoor gym. This addition aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage physical activity within the community.

From the lively back-to-school bash that kickstarts the academic year to the vibrant Juneteenth celebrations honoring African American heritage, Pacific Park has served as a gathering place and forum. Other notable events hosted at the park include the Lil 4’s Thanksgiving event, yearly Easter Egg hunt,  East End Allegiance Back-To-School Bash, and various other festivities that foster community spirit and engagement.

With its completion, Pacific Park has been transformed into a modern recreational haven, a testament to the power of collective action and the vision of a community.
