Turner and Whisenhunt Named To All-Region Team

Turner and Whisenhunt Named To All-Region Team
  • PublishedMarch 17, 2023

The 2022-2023 season was a historic one for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats. After coming into the season with very high expectations, they lived up to all of the hype and then some, winning a school record 31 games and making it all the way to the Regional Semifinals.

After the season the Wildcats continued to dominate, sweeping through the All-District awards. The awards continued to pour in this week, as seniors Kordrick Turner and Parker Whisenhunt were named to the 4A Region 2 All-Region Team.

Kordrick Turner

Senior Kordrick Turner was one of the driving catalysts for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats this season, as he was one of the most dominate big men in all of Texas. Turner finished the season averaging 16.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

The Wildcats big man was also very efficient, shooting 59.2% from the field and an even more impressive 61.6% on 2-point field goal attempts. Turner also averaged over one block and one steal per game on the season, making his presence felt in every facet of the game.

Turner was named District MVP after a historic season in which he cemented himself in Sulphur Springs history forever. Amongst others, Turner broke the school record for points in a season, as well as the most game with 10 or more points.

He also had the second-most rebounds in a season ever in school history and now has yet another impressive accolade to add to his resume.

Parker Whisenhunt

Whisenhunt was also named to the All-Region team, after arguably being snubbed in the All-District awards. While he was named First Team All-District, many felt the senior deserved one of the superlative awards, and his presence on the All-Region team further solidifies that.

Whisenhunt had a great senior season, averaging 15 points per game on over 50% shooting. The senior wing also led the Wildcats in assists (3.8 per game) and steals (2 per game), making a huge difference in every area of the game.

Much like Turner, Whisenhunt also put himself in the history books, finishing right behind Turner with the second-most points in a season for a Sulphur Springs Wildcat. Not only did Whisenhunt have a great season statistically, but also regularly made highlight plays, getting both his teammates and the crowd pumped up.

“When you have a great season like we did, it’s great to see both Kordrick and Parker get recognized,” Head Coach Brandon Shaver said. “They were both a pivotal part of our season. I’m proud of both of them.”
