FROM BEING RAISED ON THE FAMILY FARM TO HELPING OTHERS FIND THEIR FARM
You might guess by the farm dust on his black truck that Kolby Brown is from around here. Raised on a combined 200-plus acres in northwest Wood County, Texas, his family lived just a bicycle trip away, whether it be aunts, uncles, or cousins. Kolby’s grandparents started as dairy farmers near the Hopkins County line not far from Pickton. Some people call it “Brown Town” but Kolby Brown only knows it as home.
“I still remember helping feed the [dairy] cows when I was little,” he recalls. Cousins became built-in best friends as Kolby remembers, “I’d ride my bike to my cousins and then we all rode to my grandparents and hung out.”
Many of the Browns still live among the rolling hills on this communal family land, hence, the nickname “Brown Town.” After his grandparents sold the dairy, they made the decision to raise beef cattle and to this day, it is still a working cattle ranch. And bonus, this is also where his mom, Gereta Brown, owns and operates the RGB Printing, “a family-owned boutique print shop”.
Kolby’s love for the outdoors caused him to first pursue a career as a land surveyor, allowing him to travel all over Wood County and Hopkins County. He quickly realized that surveying, as he says, is “more than just walking around the woods.” A lot of hours, research, precision, and time went into each project but he learned a great deal from the process.
All grown up, his cousins split up into two career groups, one as nurses and the other as real estate agents. Kolby picked the latter, becoming an agent with Janet Martin Realty. Even though he received an associate’s degree in Applied Science, he prefers coming along side others as they decide to buy or sell. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Kolby approaches each day in real estate with an eagerness to assist clients in meeting their goals.
Kolby also enjoys bow-hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. And as his family continues to live and raise cattle, he credits his appreciation for the outdoors to his farm life in rural North East Texas. And it is from this heritage that drives Kolby in helping others find their dream property where they can create their own legacy, memories, and investments for their future generations.
