There are lots of fun fall activities happening in September at Cooper Lake State Park! All events are suitable for kids. NOTE: all events are at the South Sulphur Unit (Hopkins County side of the park)
🍂 September 2: Creatures of the Night Evening Walk. Learn about the fascinating nocturnal creatures of Cooper Lake State Park! Meet at 8 p.m. at Coyote Trail Run, bring a red-tinted flashlight, bug spray and water bottle.
🍂 September 3: Skins and Skulls Presentation. Learn about our local wildlife and the adaptations that make them unique. Meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Heron Harbor Day Use Area.
🍂 September 3: Wildlife Detectives Hike. Learn how to determine what type of animal is around from their footprints and other signs. Meet at 3 p.m. at Coyote Trail Run, short hike involved.
🍂 September 4: Photography 101. Learn about composition, the golden hour and more. Meet at 10 a.m. at the Sunset Cove Day Use Area, short hike involved to look for photo opportunities.
🍂 September 10: Beginning Bird Watching. Observe birds in their natural habitat. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Heron Harbor Day Use Area. Bring binoculars, sunscreen and water.
🍂 September 10: Kids’ Fishing Experience. Meet at 4 p.m. at the Heron Harbor Day Use Area. Bring your own fishing equipment as there are not many extras to borrow. No prior experience needed.
🍂 September 17: Trees, Nature’s High Rises. Learn about the places animals call home. Meet at 2 p.m. at Coyote Trail Run
🍂 September 18: Master Naturalist Series. Final topic TBD. Meet at Gulls Bluff Pavilion at 10 a.m.
🍂 September 24: Archery 101. Registration required, class limited to 15 participants. No prior experience necessary, for ages 10 and up. Call 903-945-52566 or email alicia.O’connor@tpwd.texas.gov to sign up. Meet 11 a.m. at the Buggy Whip Room.
🍂 September 30: Friday Night Frog Talks. Hop on over to discover different frogs and the calls they make. Meet at 7 p.m. at Sunset Cove. Bring bug spray and a sense of adventure
