Three Hopkins County Schools Get A-Rating from TEA

Three Hopkins County Schools Get A-Rating from TEA
  • PublishedAugust 22, 2022

Three Hopkins County schools discovered they have an “A” rating last week when the TEA (Texas Education Agency) released their accountability findings.

Miller Grove ISD scored a 91 percent, and Saltillo ISD and North Hopkins ISDs both scored a 90 percent.

Schools are rated every year by the TEA, and are measured across student achievement,  school progress, and closing the gaps.

“Especially in the post-COVID climate, it’s amazing to get an A rating,” said Ray Sparks, Miller Grove ISD school board vice president, speaking as a parent.

In fact, only 27.5% of Texas schools achieve an A-rating, according to TEA. Hopkins County is significantly higher, at 42.8% of school districts receiving an A-rating.

Saltillo ISD superintendent David Stickels highlighted that it was not just administrators who achieved an A-rated school. Stickels noted “the whole Saltillo ISD family” contributed to the A-rating with “all [their] dedication and hard work.”

“The ratings are not easy to achieve,” Sparks said. “We [Miller Grove ISD] are proud to have an A-ranked school and we are proud of the other A-ranked schools. It’s great whenever all of us can achieve.”

A previous version of this story had Miller Grove scoring one point fewer. The story has been updated.
