Hopkins County recognized four Veterans who will be taking an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. over the weekend. This is the 47th Honor Flight to leave the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area. Our Veterans are thankful for this opportunity and are grateful for the chance to visit the memorial for the war that they fought in.

The Veterans who will be traveling and were honored are:

VietnamArmy Troy Gilbreath (honored since he traveled last fall)

VietnamAir Force Phillip Gabbert

VietnamArmy Richard Patterson

VietnamAir Force Gene White

Each of these Veterans is from the Hopkins County area and will be traveling with a Guardian, who is either a family member, friend, or volunteer to help guide them around the memorial and anything else they might need while on their Honor Flight.

The next Honor Flight will be in the fall, with another set of Veterans leaving from Hopkins County to see and explore their war’s memorial. For more information about the Honor Flight program please reach out to Judy Rawson Heaps, who is on the board or Lynda Hager.

You can also find out more information about the Honor Flight from their website honorflight.org. Over 250,000 Veterans have been honored by the Honor Flight Network and experienced the chance to travel and see their memorial.

There are over 129 regional hubs in the Honor Flight program, but not all areas are covered by a region so there is also a Lone Eagle Program to enable those who are not serviced by a regional hub the opportunity to take an Honor Flight.

If you are interested in taking part in the Honor Flight program please be sure to check out their website and fill out the application. Have fun and safe travels to those on this season’s Honor Flight.
