The Sulphur Springs Middle school and High School bands had their final public performance of the year on Tuesday, May 3 at the High School auditorium.  The three grades from the Middle School arrived on stage first to play their selected pieces. The band instructors do amazing work with these students. The dynamic change from the start of the year till the end is just fantastic. Between the two campuses the staff is doing very well to develop from an early age.

The Sulphur Springs band program will continue to grow with this structure of developing from the lower grade levels, which can only improve the program as a whole overall.  The high school sections took the stage next with the Concert Band up first. They performed two pieces, under the direction of Ms. Elizabeth Bialecki. First up was the piece Three Folk Miniatures by Andre Jutras, they performed the 3rd movement from this piece.  The second piece was Encanto by Robert W Smith (no not from the movie).

Wind ensemble performed next with three pieces under the direction of Mr. Spencer Emmert.  He let the audience know that the band earned all 1’s in UIL and 1’s during marching, which qualified the entire program for the Sweepstakes Award.  He proves to be very proud of the work the students create.

Their first piece was The Song of the Blacksmith by Gustav Holst.  The second piece was Lassus Trombone, featuring the trombone section.  The last piece was A Festival Prelude by Alfred Reed. The last performed piece of the night was performed with both bands combined into one, “megaband.”  The entire group perfomeed the opening song to Star Wars.  May the fourth be with you!
