The No. 8 ranked Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted the Longview Lady Lobos Tuesday, looking to stay undefeated in district play and complete their series sweep over Longview. In their first matchup against Longview the Lady Cats picked up a 2-0 road win.

Crimson Bryant was the starting pitcher for Sulphur Springs, and wasted no time finding her groove. Bryant allowed a two-out single, but racked up three strikeouts in the top of the first.

The Lady Cats offense put themselves in a strong position to score in the bottom of the frame, getting singles from Reese Ragan and Bryant. Parris Pickett drew a two-out walk as well to load the bases, though Sulphur Springs wasn’t able to plate a run in the frame.

Bryant continued pitching at a very high level, striking out each of the next five batters she faced. Her day seemed to get even more impressive the deeper she went into the game, not allowing another hit until the top of the 11th inning, going well past regulation.

In the bottom of the 11th Sulphur Springs once again put themselves in decent scoring position, as Katie Johns and Anna E Velasquez each drew walks with just one out in the inning. The runners advanced to second and third on a ground out, but weren’t able to come in, forcing a 12th inning of action.

Bryant found herself in a bit of trouble in the 12th, after she allowed a one-out double. She didn’t let the potential go-ahead run phase her, as she got a groundout and a strikeout to strand the runner and give her team a chance to win it in the bottom of the frame.

Ragan opened the bottom of the 12th by reaching base on an error. Addison Caddell followed with a walk, putting runners on first and second with no outs.

Coming up with a chance to win the game, Bryant laid down a bunt, hoping to move the runners to second and third. Instead Ragan was able to come in and score, as the Lady Cats pulled out the 1-0 win.

Bryant got the win, having one of the best outings of the entire year. She went the full 12 innings, allowing just three hits. She also racked up a ridiculous 25 strikeouts along the way.

Hits were hard to come by for the Lady Cats, though Ragan and Bryant each had two of them. Pickett had the only other hit for Sulphur Springs, going 1-for-4 and drawing a walk.

The win pushes the No. 8 ranked Lady Cats record to 17-1-2 on the year and keeps them undefeated in district play. They will look to push their winning streak to 11 games with a home match against Mount Pleasant Friday. Coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
