This year’s Tanner Stone Higgins memorial warrior run will be its tenth– and final– race.

The race will take place in downtown Sulphur Springs on April 9, 2022. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8:30 a.m.

There is both a 5k length and a one-mile length for participants.

The Sgt. Tanner Higgins Military Memorial Fund “awards scholarships to area seniors enlisting in the US Armed Forces, assists the transitioning soldier, and aids military and veteran families,” according to the fund.

Over the years, organizers of the race have worked hard to keep the event going throughout tumultuous world events. In 2020, the run was held at Cooper Lake State Park, and in 2021 the run was postponed several times before being cancelled due to COVID-19 precautions.

The Warrior Run was created to honor the memory of Sgt. Tanner Stone Higgins, 23, who was killed on April 14, 2012 in Logar Province, Afghanistan by enemy forces. Higgins kin lives in Sulphur Springs and Cumby, and friends and fellow soldiers come from all over the US to participate.
