The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats had their pre-season home opener on Monday night and faced off with Princeton. The Lady Cats proved to the fans that soccer is still their game with an amazing 5-0 win against Princeton. These girls sure had the fans cheering from the stands. With goals to the teams name one player stood out with a hat trick, Hayley Schultz was on fire and found the back of the net with three amazing goals on Monday night.
Overall, the Varsity girls had an amazing night, they took the field and worked off the rust by the first 10 minutes. “Thankfully, we were able to get things together and take control of the game,” commented Coach Aguayo. Each girl that was called to step on the field, answered the call, from the defense to the midfield and forwards, they all played well. “There are still some Varsity girls out due to injury or being sick but those JV girls that were brought up to Varsity have been adjusting well and are having fun” stated Aguayo.

Princeton could not respond to any of the goals made by the varsity team. They even gave up a penalty kick that hit the cross bar, came back to the kicker, she tried to head the ball but it went wide of the goal.
The JV girls struggled to score throughout the course of the game. “We could have opened the score in the first half. They called a penalty kick in our favor but unfortunately missed the shot,” said Aguayo. They managed to go into the half scoreless, during the second half the girls continued to play well but unfortunately two defensive mistakes caused the team two late goals.

“I’m very proud of these girls, they are working hard day in and day out. We need to convert on the chances that we have, avoid defensive mistakes and this group will be doing well,” stated Coach Aguayo.
Tonight, I talked with Senior Katlyn Robinson, or as many call her “KK,” about her time on the fields and what she plans to do in the future.
