The Saltillo Lady Lions took on Campbell Tuesday, for their first game back after a long break. With a record of 11-10, the Lady Lions were looking to pick up a win and create some separation between themselves and the .500 mark.

Saltillo opened things up with a huge first quarter, controlling things from the very beginning. The Lady Lions scored 19 points in the frame, while holding Campbell to just two points.

They continued their strong play in the second quarter, once again scoring double-digit points while holding Campbell to just two points. Thanks to another 14 points scored, the Lady Lions pushed their lead to 33-4 at the end of the first half.

Saltillo kept things going into the second half, starting with a huge 25-point third quarter. Despite their huge offensive outburst, the Lady Lions didn’t slow up any of the defensive hold, keeping Campbell to just four points in the frame.

With a huge lead heading into the final frame, Saltillo did have their lowest scoring frame of the night, though they were able to cruise to a commanding 71-10 victory.

“We held them to two field goals, it was a good game back from a long break,” assistant coach Nick Boekhorst said. “We played really well on the defensive end.”

Yadhira Alonso and Julianna Giles were the leading scorers for the Lady Lions, as they each outscored Campbell by themselves. Alonso finished with a game-high 17 points, while Giles was right behind her with 16 points.

Brianna Tawil was able to match Campbell’s point total, also finishing with 10 points. Ryleigh Redar and Allie Lane each had eight points, while Maysen Pipkin had six points.

The Lady Lions are back in action Wednesday with a game against Tioga that begins at 10:20 a.m. Coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
