The Hopkins County Genealogical Society is hosting its annual fall conference, and mayor and local historian John Sellers will be the featured speaker.

The conference is set for Saturday, October 2, at 8:30 a.m. at Sulphur Springs City Hall. A lunch break is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the seminar concludes from 1 p.m. to 3:30pm.

Sellers will discuss courthouse records: how to access them, what kind of information you might find, and what these records can tell us about history. Historical information Sellers will cover will include divorce and ex-parte orders, wills, civil and criminal cases, vital registrations such as births and deaths, and deeds.

Early registration for the conference (before Sept. 1) is $20 for current HCGS members and $25 for non members. After Sept. 1, the cost is $30 for everyone. The meeting will be held both in-person and virtually.

To register or for more information, call HCGS at 903-885-8523, email to hcgstx@suddenlinkmail.com or rhondabec2@gmail.com, or drop by the Research Library at 611 North Davis on Mon, Tues, Thurs. or Fri. The research library is closed on Wednesday.
