Graveside service for Laura Ruth Melton, age 99, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Ridgeway Cemetery with Buddy Wiggins officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Mrs. Melton passed away Friday, July 24, 2020 at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs, TX.

Laura Ruth Melton was born on December 19, 1920 in Hopkins County to Vander and Parlee Fisher. She married Albert William Melton in Hopkins County, TX on June 18, 1940. During World War II, Ruth rode the train to Key West, Florida, where she joined her husband A.W., in training for the U.S. Navy. Ruth and her husband returned to Hopkins County after the war and raised their family in a farming community just west of Sulphur Springs, where they operated a poultry and cattle operation. Ruth was a homemaker/housewife and was active in numerous community clubs and activities. Her life-long hobbies included bird watching, gardening, and running their cattle operation.

Laura Ruth Melton is survived by her children; Linda Cross, Phyllis Edmonds, and Allan Melton; grandchildren, Christopher Cross, Laura Williams, Heather Forrester, and Kendall Melton; great grandchildren, Kristen Wolf, Mackenzie Petit, Keely Melton, Olivia Woods, Austin Melton, and Jace Williams; great great grandchildren, Emeri Perkins, Lily Wolf, Logan Wolf, Ramsey Petit, and Cooper Petit; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

She is preceded in death by her parents Vander and Parlee; two brothers, Birchie and Orville Fisher; and nephew, Dan Fisher.
