John 6:9
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are they for so many?”

If you take time to study the account of how Jesus miraculously fed the multitudes, you will soon see the cultural stigma of that day. In that time, according to Matthew 14:21, only the men were counted, the women and children were simply add ons, uncounted and not considered of much importance. Looking back, the little boy who is now looked upon as a hero for giving up his lunch was deemed uncountable and unqualified by that society’s standards. It’s easy to read about this and think how archaic and ungodly that kind of thinking was, but is it really much different from today? In light of everything that’s happened with the Covid-19 pandemic, one area that stands out the most is how certain people and their jobs were classified as non-essential. Think about it, one day you’re working diligently to provide a service and support your family, the next your told you’re not essential enough to go to work for during that time. The underlying truth is this. You cannot allow your value, or the value of anyone else, to be determined outside of the your position in Christ. In His eyes, you are essential. He needs you and the talents and abilities that He’s built into you to play a specific and vital role in His Kingdom. People may have counted you out, you may have counted yourself out, but Jesus is ready for you to recognize not just what you have, but who you are. It was the little boy who was uncounted, who had something insufficient, that became a miracle when he entrusted it to the right Source. You are valued and vital in the Kingdom of God, not because of what you have but because of Whose you are. Stand up and be counted. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
