Daily Devotional from The Way Bible Church for May 23rd, 2019

Acts 4:29-31
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” 31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.

Many believers find themselves asking the Lord to give them more faith because they feel convicted about not doing more in the Kingdom of God. While the believer’s faith is the basis for who they are and what they do, it’s usually not an issue of faith when it comes to a lack of ‘productivity’. Jesus said in Luke 17 that the amount of faith wasn’t the disciples issue when they asked for more of it and Paul said in Romans 12 that everyone has been given the measure of faith. So if faith is not the issue, then what is? For most, the problem is a lack of boldness or courage, not faith. There is a misconception that if you have faith then you’re automatically going to be bold enough to use it. This was not the case in today’s text. The Apostles’ lives had been threatened because they were sharing their faith. Upon hearing this, their faith didn’t change but it was obvious that their courage had been shaken. If you find yourself in the place of not stepping out and operating in what you believe, just like the Apostles, you need to pray for boldness. The next time you feel the Holy Spirit tugging at your heart to step out and show His love to someone at work or when He asks you to pray for the checker at the store who has obviously having a bad day, ask Him for His boldness to act on the faith that’s on the inside of you.
