“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” – Matthew 13:44

If I held a crisp one-hundred-dollar bill in front of you, would you agree that it is valuable? It could buy a lot! Some of you maybe beg to differ, but I believe that it is a valuable amount of money in your hand at once. Let’s say this bill is brand new and has never been used. As I’m displaying the money to you, I then crumple it up in my hand, spit on it, and throw it on the ground. Then I decide to stomp on Ben Franklin with my foot. Now, after I pick the one-hundred-dollar bill back up from the ground I’ll ask you again… Is this bill still valuable?

The one hundred dollars is still one hundred dollars. Regardless of what it has been through. Beloved, there is nothing you have done that could alter God’s perception of you. The world may identify you with what you have done, good or bad, but your Heavenly Father loves you no matter the shortcomings you have experienced. In the parable above, God is the man who buried that treasure initially. When man first sinned long ago by the choices of Adam and Eve, their God given value was hidden. Perfect man became full of sin. Although, God did not let the devil steal His treasure. He buried it away until another Man, a Second Adam, could come and purchase the stolen land.

When Jesus arrived on the scene (the field), He had an understanding of the hidden treasure. His mission was to seek and save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). Christ came to earth and gave all that He had to offer for the sake of this treasure being His. Friend, this treasure is you and me. God’s Children. We are valuable enough in the eyes of God that He would even send His own Son as the ultimate payment so we, a dirty dollar bill, would be recognized as something beyond a sinner. Because Jesus dug us out of the ground, we are righteous, royal, and even citizens of Heaven. Beloved, that is good grace!

Blessings,
Pastor Hunter
