Sulphur Springs Wildcats, Lady Cats Set For Playoff Doubleheader In Lindale

Sulphur Springs Wildcats, Lady Cats Set For Playoff Doubleheader In Lindale
  • PublishedMarch 20, 2024

Winning has become tradition for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats soccer programs in recent years and both teams were able to keep that going, winning district titles and setting themselves up to make deep playoff runs. Now that district play is over, the playoff picture is set, and fans of the Sulphur Springs soccer programs are in for a treat, as the Wildcats and Lady Cats are set for a doubleheader in the Bi-District round.

The first round matchup’s are finalized, with the Sulphur Springs Wildcats taking on the Bullard Panthers and the Lady Cats set to face Tyler Chapel Hill. The two games will both be held at Lindale Eagle Stadium Tuesday, March 26 with the boys team getting the doubleheader started at 5:30 p.m. The girls will follow shortly after, giving fans the opportunity to run to the concession stand and get ready for more playoff soccer.

Wildcats vs Bullard

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats enter the postseason with a ton of momentum, winning 13 of their final 15 games, with both losses coming in penalty kicks. After finishing last season as Co-District champions but having to be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, the Wildcats will be looking to use this opportunity to make a deep playoff run this time around.

In the opening round they will face a Bullard Panthers team who has a ton of momentum as well. After taking back-to-back losses to Athens and Van early in district play, the Panthers went on a six-game winning streak, defeating Tyler Chapel Hill, Grand Saline, Lindale, Mineola, Brownsboro and Cumberland Academy by a combined score of 20-2.

Their six-game winning streak would finally come to an end, as they fell to the Athens Hornets in a 2-0 shutout in their regular season finale. While their winning streak may no longer be in play, they still are very much coming into the postseason with a ton of momentum and will be looking to keep it going.

Both teams are very much worthy of their playoff berths and would make strong Bi-District champions, though only one will be able to walk away victorious. Sulphur Springs will be looking to make it to at least the Area Round for a second consecutive season and will be looking to see if they can match the heights they reached back in the 2020-2021 season when they made it all the way to the Regional Quarterfinal Round.

Lady Cats vs Tyler Chapel Hill

Getting the late game in the double header is the two-time defending District Champion Sulphur Springs Lady Cats, who will be facing the Tyler Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs. The two teams are hardly strangers, as they also faced in the Bi-District round of last season’s playoffs, when the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats won in a 9-0 blowout.

The nine-goal victory was exactly what they Lady Cats needed to kick off a playoff run, as they would go on to win again in the Area round, beating Palestine 2-0. This year the Lady Cats enter the postseason on a nine-game winning streak, in which they scored 42 goals and only allowed three.

Sulphur Springs has been playing extremely well on both sides of the ball and have only allowed one goal in their last seven games. They will be looking to keep that strong play going and will look for a similar outcome against Tyler Chapel Hill as they did last season.

Last year the Lady Cats made program history, reaching the Regional Quarterfinal. They will be looking to get back there this season and see if they can make history once again by making it past that mark, with that journey beginning Tuesday Night in Lindale.

Both games in Tuesday’s doubleheader will be broadcast live on Chad’s Media and Front Porch News for fans who aren’t able to make it in person.
