UIL Announces District Realignment As Sulphur Springs Welcomes New Opponents
  • PublishedFebruary 1, 2024

Thursday morning school’s across the state anxiously waited to see their fate for the next two years, as the UIL announced the new district realignment. After having a ton of success in District 8-4A the past two seasons, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be looking to continue to build upon that success and reach new heights.

For the next two years, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats football team will be joining District 7-4A in Region 2. Joining them will be Aubrey, Celina, Frisco Panther Creek, Lake Dallas, Nevada Community and Paris. Last season their new district mates went a combined 47-25 with Aubrey, Celina and Frisco Panther Creek each making it to the Regional Quarterfinals.

The success didn’t stop there, as Lake Dallas also went 10-2 with a trip to the Area round and Paris also made the playoffs, going 4-7 but earning a trip to the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

The Wildcats success over the last two seasons is right up there with their new competition, going a combined 15-7 and making the playoffs in each season. Now with a chance to go against some new competitors, the Wildcats will look to continue to improve each season and continue their success in the Coach Faircloth era.

In all other sports, Sulphur Springs will be in District 14-4A and will be joined by mostly familiar faces. Also in District 14-4A is Bonham, Paris, Paris North Lamar, Pittsburg and Texarkana Pleasant Grove.

The new district is almost identical to their current district, with the only change being Bonham replacing Texarkana Liberty-Eylau. This is a district Sulphur Springs has a had a ton of success in, racking up playoff appearances and even district championships across all sports.

Last year volleyball, boys soccer, girls soccer, boys basketball, girls basketball, girls golf, boys golf and softball each made the playoffs in their district. This season volleyball has already replicated that success, with girls basketball already clinching a playoff berth and boys basketball currently sitting in first place with an undefeated record through the halfway point in district play.

With soccer quickly approaching district play they will look to replicate that same success as well, while golf, softball and baseball wait for their chance to do the same thing. Each program has seen steady improvement since moving to 4A two years ago, and will look to continue to reach new heights over the next two seasons, against similar competition.
