Obituary for Bennie Starrett

Obituary for Bennie Starrett
  • PublishedJanuary 29, 2024

On January 20th, 2024, Bennie Ray Starrett of Mesquite passed away at the age of 85 from a brief illness.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Children are Vickie Triana (husband Eugene) of Plano Tx, Audrey Holland of McAlester Ok, and Pam Garside (husband Brad) of Allen Tx; Grandchildren are Nathan, Carl, Ryan, Colton, Trenton (TK), Rachel; Great Grandchildren are James Kristy, Malerie, Kace, Ossman, Carly, Xyler.

Bennie was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 1/2 years Willie Mae (Nicholson) Starrett, Son Troy Starrett, Brothers Carl Jr. of Lenox Massachusetts, Frank Starrett of Yantis, Tx, Sisters Betty Story of Sulphur Springs TX, Melba Vaughan of Sulphur Springs, Parents Carl and Eula (Ponder) Starrett of Sulphur Springs.

Bennie was born in Riley Springs, Tx, February 28th, 1938. He served in the Army Reserves. He expressed to us kids that he was the ‘lucky one’ because Wille Mae said Yes when he proposed. They were married in 1956, soon after they moved to Mesquite Tx, where they raised their 4 children.

Bennie was a long-time resident of Mesquite. He loved his kids, grand kids and great grandkids. He was a die-hard Texas Ranger fan (he got to see them finally win the World Series), and a Cowboy fan. He loved going to West Mesquite High School football games to watch Troy excel on the field. He had a great sense of humor and would joke with the family all the time.

He was a private man but once he got to know you, you would be a friend for life. He would do anything in his power to help you if you called upon him. He was an inspiration to his family about Loyalty and Friendship.

He will be greatly missed. But we know that he is now reunited with the love of his life Willie Mae and his son Troy. Families are Forever.

At Ben’s request, no service will be held.
