Patty Jo (Schasteen) Osborn passed away on January 25, 2024, at home, surrounded by family. She was born December 11, 1945, in Fort Scott Kansas. She was the daughter of Doris and William Schasteen.

Following high school graduation, she attended Pittsburg State, Kansas State, Emporia State, El Centro, Richland, Brookhaven, and Eastfield Community Colleges, culminating in a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in social work from East Texas State University.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, William and Doris Schasteen. Surviving are her brother, David Schasteen; her husband of nearly 57 years, Charles Osborn; her sons, Todd and wife Meredith of Austin, Michael and Natalie of Austin, Casey and Kelly of McKinney, and Christopher of Taylor, TX; grandchildren, Hayden, Olivia, Will, Owen, Ethan, Charlie, Ella, Weston, and Griffin.

She was very active in local service organizations and causes for children. These included:

Ø Founded Texas Adoption Services – with over 100 placements (60+ from Romania) over three years

Ø Volunteer counselor for abused women and children

Ø Helping establish CASA in Sulphur Springs

Ø Investigator and rescuer of abused children for CPS

Ø Certifying foster parents and helping to place foster children in loving homes

Ø Helping create “a Gift of Love” on KLTV of Tyler – showcasing available foster children

Ø Helping implement Stephen Ministries at FUMC of Sulphur Springs and later volunteering to help care receivers cope with illness, death of a loved one, and personal set backs

Ø After her career at CPS, she became an Adjunct Professor of Social Work at Texas A&M – Commerce, helping those entering the profession she loved so much

 

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024 followed by private interment at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers are Vali and Bill Brannon, David and Barbara Gordon, Boyd and Lynn Graves, Mary and Chad Cable, Phil Morgan, and Keith Bland. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Lake Country CASA (https://lakecountrycasa.org/donate/) or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).
