Wildcats Host Kaufman Lions On Senior Night

Wildcats Host Kaufman Lions On Senior Night
  • PublishedOctober 27, 2023

The 2023 Texas High School Football season enters it’s final weeks, and the Sulphur Springs Wildcats host the Kaufman Lions in their final home game of the year. Before the game Sulphur Springs will honor their seniors, starting at 7 p.m.

The stakes are high for both teams in this one, but for different reasons. With a record of 7-1 and a perfect 3-0 in district play, the Wildcats will be looking to pick up a win to put themselves in a position to play for a district title in next week’s season finale.

For the Kaufman Lions, they come into the night with a record of 2-6 and 1-2 in district play. They currently sit in fourth place in the district but a loss could put their playoff hopes in serious danger.

The only two teams behind Kaufman are Mabank and Community, either of which have a win in district play yet, but the two teams face each other tonight, and one will walk away with their first win. Community is also who Kaufman will face in next weeks’ season finale. If Community beats Mabank tonight and Kaufman loses to Sulphur Springs, the two teams will be playing to see who gets the fourth and final playoff spot, though a win tonight over Sulphur Springs would clinch a playoff berth for the Lions.

The Wildcats enter the night with a ton of momentum, winning six consecutive games, and again, putting themselves in a position to play for a district title next week. During their six-game winning streak, they have outscored their opponents 219-130 and only twice have they won by one score or less.

During that time period they have averaged 37 points per game, while allowing just 22 points per game, playing well on both sides of the ball and winning each game by an average score of 15 points.

The Kaufman Lions have also gained some momentum as of late, picking up their first district win last week by beating Mabank on the road in a 47-6 blowout. Kaufman struggled to open the season, losing each of their first four games, before going 2-2 in the four weeks since.

Both teams have a ton on the line tonight and will surely be planning to leave it all on the field. For anybody who can’t make it to the game in person, join our broadcast starting at 6:45 p.m. to catch all of the Senior Night festivities and the entire game. The game will be broadcast live on Front Porch News and Chad’s Media.
