Como-Pickton Hosts North Hopkins For District Deciding Senior Night

Como-Pickton Hosts North Hopkins For District Deciding Senior Night
  • PublishedOctober 24, 2023

Tuesday night is a huge night for the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles, as they play their final regular season game of the year. The game will not only be Senior Night for the Lady Eagles, but also a chance at redemption against the North Hopkins Lady Panthers and a chance to play for a share of the district title.

The last time these two teams faced was one for the history books, as it came down to extra time in the fifth set. The Lady Eagles thought they had won on game-point, but a controversial lift call kept the game alive and the North Hopkins Lady Panthers went on to win the set and the game, 18-16.

That loss is the only one the Lady Eagles have suffered in district play, winning their other eight games. Further more than that, the loss is also the only one Como-Pickton has had since a straight set loss to Hughes Springs all the way back on Sept. 8.

Since their first meeting, both teams have been perfect, with the Lady Eagles going 4-0 and winning 12 of the 14 sets they’ve played. North Hopkins has been equally impressive, also going 4-0 and winning all of them in straight sets. The two sets they dropped to Como-Pickton are the only ones they’ve lost in all of district play and you would have to go all the way back to a tournament game against Paris Chisum back on Sept. 2 to find their most recent loss.

The Lady Panthers of North Hopkins have been electric this season, going 29-7 and winning 80 sets while only losing 23 sets. Their impressive play has them all the way at No. 11 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association State Volleyball Poll.

Regardless of the outcome, both teams have had incredible seasons and will be looking to make deep playoff runs, but what their postseason journey will look like could be decided by Tuesday’s regular season finale. If North Hopkins is able to capture one final win, they will end the regular season as undefeated district champs, cementing themselves as the 1 seed.

Como-Pickton, on the other hand, still has a chance to call themselves Co-District champions with a win tonight. Both teams have had great seasons and will be looking to continue their respective seasons with deep playoff runs.
